Assist advocates across the US in support of comprehensive FASD legislation, the proposed "Advancing FASD Research, Prevention, and Services Act, " which authorizes programs and funding to aid individuals and families affected by alcohol exposure in utero.  NCFASD Informed is pleased that Susan Shepard Carlson (Chair of the NOFAS Legislative and Policy Committee) and possibly others from the NOFAS Policy team will be joining Kathy Hotelling to discuss this legislation and how you can be an effective advocate.  It is important to note that Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) is the ranking member of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee; his support is extremely important.

Secretary of Health and Human Services Nominee Xavier Becerra Commits to Working with Senators Lisa Murkowski and Amy Klobuchar on FASD

Senator Lisa Murkowski, who plans to reintroduce FASD legislation with Senator Amy Klobuchar this spring, asked Xavier Becerra about FASD during the Senate’s consideration of the California Attorney General’s nomination to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.

The NOFAS Policy team led by Susan Carlson worked with Senator Murkowski’s office to engage nominee Becerra on the importance of FASD.  If approved, Secretary Becerra would guide and manage the federal resources and agencies committed to the health and well being of the nation. A full Senate vote on Becerra’s nomination could occur as early as this week.
