Launch of New Podcast Series “FASD Informed”

NCFASD Informed is a North Carolina FASD organization that announced the launching of a new podcast series entitled “FASD Informed” to educate and empower our communities to better support those living with an FASD. Natalie Vecchione, MS, MT-BC is the podcast series host. Natalie serves on the Board of NCFASD Informed and she is the mom of an almost 18 year old son living with an FASD. “FASD Informed” podcast series is now available on Podbean (and soon in other ways you find your podcasts).

Study for New App for Families Raising Children with FASD

“Are you a parent or caregiver of a child with FASD? Researchers at the University of Rochester are developing a new app for families raising children with FASD. Study is open to parents or caregivers of children with FASD ages 3 to 12 living in the United States.”

Fears of Baby Harm Amid Drinking Spike During Pandemic

“Women are being urged to curb their drinking over fears it could lead to a spike in alcohol harm in babies conceived during the coronavirus pandemic. A survey recently found Australians were drinking 70 per cent more during isolation. Professor Elizabeth Elliott said this, coupled with the increased time partners were spending together, meant there was an increased risk of pregnancy and alcohol harm. Prof Elliott said it was a myth that only high rates of drinking could cause FASD.”

Drinking Alcohol May Heighten Risk of Getting Coronavirus, WHO Suggests

“As the coronavirus pandemic leaves millions stuck at home, alcohol sales have risen drastically nationwide, with spirits and premixed cocktails in high demand. The World Health Organization, however, says alcohol may put people at increased risk for the coronavirus, weakening the body’s immune system and leaving drinkers at risk for other risky behaviors that could increase the likelihood of contracting coronavirus.”
