“Meet Your Student” is a new fillable letter to a teacher that the FASD United Family Navigation program created.  It includes facts about FASD and includes a form to fill in what a student is good at and things they may struggle with, as well as things that help in the classroom.

FASD United Responds to TIME Article’s Incorrect Terminology for FASD

A TIME Magazine article released on August 2nd, 2023 about prohibition has been flagged by our team at FASD United for using inaccurate terminology. 

While the article itself is well-written and relevant, its use of outdated language to describe prenatal alcohol exposure is not excusable after almost twenty years of updated information.

AWHONN Position Statement on Prevention of FASD

 This statement from The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) says, “Treatment for alcohol use should be nonstigmatizing and should focus on the patient and family. Therefore, AWHONN recommends that nurses provide education on the risk of alcohol use during pregnancy.”

CDC’s “Check You Drinking. Make a Plan to Drink Less.” Alcohol Screening Tool

 

The CDC released an alcohol screening tool that allows adults to anonymously check their drinking, identify barriers and motivators for drinking less, and print or save a personalized change plan. This evidence-based tool is a free resource that can be used by individuals or institutions to reduce excessive alcohol use. The tool was developed as part of the CDC’s Drink Less, Be Your Best Campaign. More information on the campaign can be found here.
