Texas A&M Studies Relationship of Anxiety, Alcohol in Pregnancies

“A new study at Texas A&M is looking into the impacts of pregnancy and alcohol on anxiety. Andres Viana, director of the CARES Lab holding the study, told KBTX that while pregnancy is generally a happy period for families, many women struggle. The study includes the relationship of anxiety and alcohol on pregnant people. Viana said a third of women will consume alcohol during pregnancy, despite recommendations.”

Young Men Are Binge Drinking Less Than Young Women for the 1st Time. What's Going on?

“Fewer Gen Z men than women reported binge drinking in the last month between 2021 and 2023, according to the April 2025 study in JAMA. Though the gap between men’s and women’s drinking rates has been narrowing over the past several decades, in recent years women’s alcohol use has outpaced men’s for the first time ever. The findings have raised alarm bells over women’s high binge-drinking rates.”

Proposed Changes to Medicaid and FASD

Sharing for Information Purposes:

If Medicaid spending is reduced, states will need to make difficult decisions to meet savings targets.  Without Medicaid, school districts will be responsible for paying for medical supports mandated by IDEA for students with an IEP.  One reform favored by some in Congress is tighter controls on work requirements for Medicaid recipients.  States can define who is capable of work, which means those with a non-apparent and misunderstood disability, like FASD, might be disproportionately impacted.
