CIFASD Highlight: Long-Term Health Outcomes in Adults

FASD United is highlighting CIFASD research.

Much of the research on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) has focused on children. Dr. Claire Coles is helping expand that understanding by studying long-term health outcomes in adults with prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE).
In 2024, Dr. Coles published findings showing that adults with PAE may report a greater number and wider range of health issues compared to those without exposure. These include conditions affecting organs such as the heart and bladder, as well as diabetes and kidney stones.

This research helps deepen our understanding of how prenatal alcohol exposure can impact health across the lifespan.
